Position Description

Position Summary:

We're seeking a Project Manager/Estimator for our underground wet utility infrastructure projects, including water, sewer, and storm drain systems. In this role, you'll own the project lifecycle, from securing bids and developing accurate estimates to managing budgets, schedules and subcontractor performance. You are someone who is skilled at driving projects forward, ensuring profitability, quality and customer satisfaction. You'll be proactive, identifying and resolving challenges and someone who drives collaboration to achieve exceptional outcomes.

Your Key Responsibilities & Performance Success Factors:

As our Project Manager/Estimator, you won't just manage projects - you'll drive their success across multiple phases.

Safety :

  • Champion and enforce site safety through best practices, regular monitoring, and comprehensive training.
  • Drive a culture of safety excellence, ensuring compliance and accurate documentation.
Quality Assurance & Project Expertise :
  • Champion project quality from bid to closeout, maintaining a thorough understanding of plans and specifications.
  • Proactively identify and resolve challenges, leveraging your working knowledge of construction means and methods.
  • Skilled in various project delivery systems (design-build, CM-GMP, lump sum, unit price, etc.), ensuring optimal project outcomes.
  • Deliver exceptional results by communicating quality goals, documenting changes, and conducting post-job reviews for continuous improvement.
  • Proactively identify and resolve project challenges, and escalate issues as needed.
  • Conduct post-job reviews to capture lessons learned and celebrate successes.
  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including as-builts, meticulous change order management and communication, and visual progress logs.
Profitability :
  • Drive project profitability through accurate and competitive cost estimation, from individual components to full project scopes.
  • Cultivate strong subcontractor relationships, actively recruiting to broaden bid participation and ensure fair pricing.
  • Negotiate favorable terms with owners, creatively securing projects while safeguarding profitability.
  • Oversee dynamic change order management and facilitate seamless material and subcontractor buy-outs.
  • Lead pre-job planning sessions and conduct thorough design revision reviews to maintain cost and schedule integrity.
Schedule :
  • Develop and manage comprehensive project schedules from initial bid to final closeout, including accurate self-perform labor, equipment, and supervision cost projections.
  • Ensure smooth project transitions by collaborating with operations to align on costs, schedules, and scopes post-award.
  • Maintain and update CPM schedules weekly, clearly communicating progress, productivity goals, milestones, and critical path to all stakeholders.
  • Oversee all project management procedures, including submittals, RFIs, change orders, and close-out documentation, ensuring timely execution and issue reporting to owners and leadership.
Customer Satisfaction (includes both internal and external customers) :
  • Cultivate strong relationships with owners, design teams, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Serve as the primary liaison, facilitating open communication and proactively resolving issues and disputes in a timely manner.
  • Foster a positive and productive work environment through effective team interaction, collaboration, and mentorship.
  • Actively engage with all project stakeholders (internal teams, vendors, subs, architects, engineers, owners) to drive common goals.
  • Swiftly resolve conflicts and challenges, promoting a collaborative and efficient project environment.
Education and/or Training:
    • Undergraduate degree Civil Engineering or Construction Management, or an equivalent combination of education and related civil construction experience.

Position Requirements

Qualifications:
  • 5+ years' of direct experience managing civil contracts.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills to build a high-performance team.
  • Professional integrity and accountability.
  • Ability to prioritize and maintain a high-volume, high-demand schedule.
  • Excellent attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Proficient with HCSS Heavy Bid or B2W estimating software.
  • Proficient with MS Project (or equivalent) with experience developing complex project schedules.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Word.
